So That You Delight

Life is busy. The list of "to do's" is long. And we all have of issues of the heart to wrestle with. I know I have. It's been over a month since my last post. It's not for lack of trying, but very time I sit down I hit a wall. My issues of late have clouded my perspective and pour out all over the page in anger. Let's save that for another day. In truth, I'm still head down & working through that one. But here's something I am learning in the process...don't forget to look up. Don't forget to delight.

The last couple of weeks the boys & I have been studying botany for science; specifically the structure of flowers. At first glance, flowers all look the same right? They all have a stem, petals & leaves. At that simple thought we think they're pretty and smell nice, but observations tend to stop there. We have learned that most flowers are composite flowers. What looks like one flower is actually made up of multiple flowers grouped together. They are detailed. Complex. "Thanks for the science lesson, Kel, but what does it matter?"

It matters because sometimes when you're in the trenches, head down & surviving, you miss the details. You skip over the complex. You have nothing to delight in.

I feel stuck in my trench right now. In an effort to claw my way out of it this weekend I created a patio garden. Gardening gives me pause, lifts my head & brings contentedness. As I surveyed my handiwork, I noticed one of the little potted blooms. She was dainty, but at closer inspection intricate. I delighted in the Lord's handiwork.

While the busyness of the day won't go away and the lists don't get shorter, there can be peace. When the heart wrestling doesn't pass, there can be hope. Lift your head my friend. Look for that one thing that causes you to suck in you breath in wonder, So That you delight.

Delight yourself in the Lord.

Psalm 37:4

But You, O Lord are a shield about me,

my glory and the lifter of my head.

Psalm 3:3
