Great Is Your Faithfulness

Like a swift midwestern thunderstorm, we celebrated 25 years of marriage, marked a decade in one location, saw one son get married, another get engaged, and the final one move to California, all before the sun could break through clouds. After four months of constant motion, transitioning from one change to another, my emotions have been rushing to keep up, weaving through raindrops in an attempt to remain dry.
Haven't we all experienced that at some point? We wrestle through moments of celebration, profound sadness, disbelief, or joy, much like an umbrella turned inside out by the wind.
How we respond to life illuminates what we are believing about God, people and our circumstances. Our response could either spiral into a slippery slope of emotions or serve as a chance to recognize and amend a false narrative, or highlight the truth that supports us.
I actually love a good thunderstorm. The wind blowing dark clouds across the sky builds anticipation for the crack of thunder and the sound of torrential rain on my roof. The flow of exhilaration then rushes out of my body and settles in the afterglow of the sun filtering through the refreshed trees, playing with shadows across my living room wall. Like the light seeping back into my day, peace resides in my heart. In one of those moments, reflecting on the past and contemplating change I meditated on the faithfulness of the Lord.
Like the virgins awaiting their Bridegroom, I prayed for a husband;
You gave me redeeming love.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like Hannah, I cried for a child;
You gave me a nest at the foot of Your altar.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like Jacob, I wrestled in motherhood;
You blessed me with roots like the oak of righteousness.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like Gomer, my heart pursued other loves;
Your hesed love made me whole.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like Israel wandering in the wilderness, I longed for a home;
You gave me a pilgrim's heart that found its place in You.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like David, my soul descended into despair;
There I found You, for even the darkness is light to You.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like the psalmist, I long for Your presence and set my heart upon Your courts;
Your joy has become my strength.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Like the fathers of old, I will dwell in the land;
I will delight, trust, wait, and rest in You.
Great is Your faithfulness.
Whether it's a song of sorrow or a hymn of praise, don't fear the storm. Instead, embrace it, trusting that His immense faithfulness will be your refuge, bringing renewal and redemption for your benefit and His glory.
Great is His fatihfulness.
